Pill Station: construction progress and plans

Work is progressing on the restoration of the Portishead railway line, which will include a new station at Pill and a new station at Portishead.

The current phase of work at Pill involves excavating the railway cuttings to create space for the new station platform. The cuttings will then be reinforced using steel rods, sprayed concrete and mesh. This work is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

The restored railway is currently expected to reopen in 2028, providing an hourly direct train service between Portishead and Bristol Temple Meads, with a journey time of approximately 25 minutes.

Crockerne House and Underbanks

Works in the area around Crockerne House and Underbanks have been delayed. The project team has advised that additional remedial work was needed to repair burst water mains, alongside a significantly higher number of utility services than anticipated within this section of the highway.

A revised completion date will be shared once confirmed by the project team.

Councillor site visit

A site visit for councillors to view the MetroWest railway works has been proposed, with arrangements being coordinated by Sam Byers. Details will be shared once the visit has been finalised.
