Parish Council Email Account Compromised – Please Read
We regret to inform you that our old parish council email account (eigparish.council@btinternet.com) was compromised. On 21 March, a phishing email was sent from our account to everyone in our address book. This email was not sent by us and may contain harmful links or requests for personal information.
What to do if you have an email from us
- Do not click any links or reply to the suspicious email.
- Mark the email as spam or phishing in your inbox.
- Delete the email from your inbox and deleted items folder.
If you’ve clicked any links or provided details, please contact your bank or IT support immediately and consider reporting to Action Fraud (www.actionfraud.police.uk or 0300 123 2040).
Our Response
We have worked with BT to lock down the compromised account, and we are investigating the breach. We have set up a new secure email account for the parish clerk (clerk@peig-pc.gov.uk). Please add these address to your safe senders list and update your address book accordingly to remove the old email address.
We apologise for any inconvenience or concern caused. We will provide updates as soon as our primary email account is restored and secure. If you have any questions, please contact us via the emergency email.
Thank you for your understanding and vigilance.
